PAUL Rowley has called upon his Salford Red Devils side to “build pressure” on hosts Warrington Wolves when they visit The Halliwell Jones Stadium tomorrow.

However, he has backed his opposite number Daryl Powell to turn things around at The Wire – with the help of a luxury his side cannot afford.

The sides go into the game level on points in the Super League table, with Salford a place higher in eighth by virtue of a superior points difference.

They have already lost once at the home of The Wire this year, but there are a few differences in Powell’s squad since the 32-18 win in April.

For example, none of Warrington’s three try-scorers on that evening will be on the field – Joe Philbin and Matty Ashton are both injured while hat-trick scorer Toby King has joined Huddersfield Giants on loan.

Jake Wardle has come the other way to join Warrington while Thomas Mikaele, Kyle Amor and Matty Nicholson have also been added mid-season.

“Warrington aren’t at the end of the table they’d want to be, but in terms of personnel they’ve got the luxury of buying their way out of trouble which we don’t have,” Rowley said.

“What I will say is our strength is our togetherness and our culture is second to none. We’ve worked very hard on that.

“Warrington are a very, very wealthy club that have an embarrassment of riches on and off the field.

“On paper, we’re huge underdogs but as we know, the game’s not won on paper.

“I was there last week and it was a very tense atmosphere. After the result, it was like a cup final result so they will talk about the confidence they’ve gained.

“It’s our job to build that pressure on them again and that’s what we intend to do.

“They’re a very capable side – they will hear this every week but the facts remain that by their standards, they’ve under-performed.

“What I do know is they’ve got a really good coach with a proven track record and a club that’s going to support him, and rightly so.

“It will turn for them, he will get it right and I think he’s going about his business in the right manner.”

The Red Devils come into the game brimming with confidence having thrashed Wakefield Trinity 74-12 at the AJ Bell Stadium last time out.

It was the highest number of points they have scored in a single game in their Super League history as well as being their biggest ever winning margin.

However, Rowley insists their mood would be unchanged even if they were on the wrong end of the result.

“Confidence is always high, to be honest,” he said.

“One of the good things about our group is that no matter what the outcome on a weekend, we’re on a journey of improvement.

“I think you can see everybody has improved from where we started and that makes a real difference when you put it together collectively.

“We’ve got some high-achievers within the group, so it’s a good place to be in. We’re always positive and we’re positive going into this week as well.

“It’s a tough run now coming up. We’ve got a really good tussle to come against Warrington and we’re really looking forward to it.”
