LOOKING at the Warrington Wolves 21-man squad, it looks as strong as it has been this season.

With Ben Currie and Oliver Holmes coming back into the fold, it means that in theory, Daryl Powell will be able to name his strongest 17 to face Catalans.

Doubts will still remain over the fitness of Currie as well as Mike Cooper, Stefan Ratchford and Gareth Widdop until the final team is named, but I will base my line-up prediction on them being fit and ready to go.

In that case, I expect Holmes and Currie will go straight back into the second row.

Powell will hope Currie and Widdop’s returns will start a period of lengthened availability for both to provide some much-needed stability on the left edge.

Only Matty Ashton on the wing has been a constant this season, with centres, back rowers and half-backs all chopping and changing of late.

That unfamiliarity perhaps shone through in some of the tries The Wire conceded in Toulouse at the weekend, so it is hoped Widdop and Currie will help shore up that side of the field.

On the right, Holmes’ return will only add potency to an edge unit that already looks strong and stable.

Ellis Longstaff could consider himself unfortunate to lose his spot if, as expected, he makes way following two solid outings in Holmes’ absence.

He may well compete for a spot on the bench although Jack Hughes will likely get that role alongside Joe Philbin, Joe Bullock and Danny Walker with Jason Clark continuing to start after impressive displays in the past two games.

If Mike Cooper is fit, I expect him to start alongside Robbie Mulhern in the front row with Daryl Clark also coming back in to start at hooker.

The same goes for Widdop but if he does not make it, Riley Dean could get another chance or Josh Thewlis could come in at full-back with Stefan Ratchford moving to the halves.

So my predicted Wire team to face Catalans looks like this: Ratchford; Charnley, Mata’utia, King, Ashton; Widdop, Williams; Mulhern, D Clark, Cooper, Holmes, Currie, J Clark. Subs: Philbin, Bullock, Hughes, Walker.

Left out: Davis, Longstaff, Thewlis, Dean
