IT is no secret that Billy Magoulias was a wanted man during the off-season.

When his availability became known, several Super League clubs put forward offers to bring him to the UK from Cronulla Sharks.

However, the loose forward reveals conversations with a former player helped push him in the direction of Warrington Wolves.

When Magoulias was made aware of The Wire’s interest, he spoke with former Cronulla teammate Bryson Goodwin.

The New Zealand international enjoyed a successful two-season spell at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, helping the club lift the Challenge Cup in 2019.

And he had some good things to say to help Magoulias make up his mind.

“When I got the offer to come here, I spoke to Bryson,” he said.

“He was tipping me up and said a lot of good things about the place from when he was here.

“He’s good friends with Jason Clark and he said he’d be up the road and be handy when I come over.

“I was talking to him quite a bit and he was very helpful.”

Goodwin made 61 appearances for The Wire across the 2018 and 2019 seasons, scoring 26 tries and kicking 43 goals.

He still jointly holds the club record with Chris Riley and Joel Monaghan for number of tries scored in a single Super League match thanks to his unforgettable five-try haul in the 80-10 annihilation of Hull FC in August 2018.
