STEVE Price believes the decision to show Mike Cooper a red card during Warrington Wolves' win at Castleford Tigers was "really harsh."

With The Wire already down to 12 men following Josh Charnley's sin-binning, the prop was given his marching orders with 15 minutes of the contest remaining.

After video referee Chris Kendall reviewed video evidence that showed Cooper's shoulder making contact with the head of Castleford's Liam Watts, referee Liam Moore was advised to send the Wire man off.

With Castleford charging back into contention having reduced their deficit from 32 points to just eight, Warrington regained their composure to close out a 40-24 victory.

Charnley was yellow-carded for a dangerous tackle on home winger Jordan Turner and The Wire now face a nervous wait to see if the Match Review Panel issue either with penalty notices to keep them out of next Friday's play-off eliminator against either Leeds Rhinos or Hull KR.

However, Price is confident both will be cleared to play and believes Watts himself should have been punished further for a high tackle on Matty Ashton shortly after Cooper's dismissal – only a penalty was given for that incident.

"To get a red card for that, I felt that was really harsh," Price said.

"It probably warranted a yellow but a red is tough.

"Liam Watts had a high shot on Matty Ashton under the posts which was more around the head.

"I’m confident he won’t have anything to answer. I felt there was nothing in both of them although Charners warranted a yellow.

"I’m confident we’ll have no case to answer."
