THERE were some excellent displays from Warrington Athletics Club members during the final round of the Youth Development League.

The under 15s age groups saw victories for Jacob Pryor (A 1,500m, 4mins 56.0secs), Rory Gregory (A 1,500m, 4mins 57.8secs) and Zak Chamun (A discus, 21.15m) in the boys events while Imogen Wharton (1,500m, 5mins 15.3secs) won for the girls.

Other results among the boys saw Zak finish second in both the A shot putt and A javelin.

Edward Chaplin was fifth in the A 100m while Alex Rix came home fourth in the A 800m.

For the girls, Ella Pennington was fifth over both 100m and 200m while Harriet Bell came third in the A 300m.

Eva Marshall was fourth in the B 300m and Efa Rees was third in the A long jump

Caleb Adelani was a double sprint winner for the under 13s boys, claiming victory in the A 75 metres (10.0secs) and the A 150m (20.1secs) while Thomas Darbyshire won the A 75m hurdles in 16.0secs.

Thomas was also third in the B 150m and the A high jump while also coming third was Alfie Blizzard in both the B 75m and the A 800m and Spencer Astbury in the A 1,200m. Spencer was also fifth in the A long jump.

The four boys then combined to win the 4x100m relay race in 58.1secs.

The girls events in the under 13s age group saw Sarah Ashcroft win the B 800m in 2mins 41.2secs while Cara Gregory was victorious in the B 1,200m in 4mins 24.9secs.

Cara’s identical twin sister Sinead came home second in the A 1,200m while Ellie Barker was second in the A 800m.

Over 75m, Abigail Adelani was fifth in the A race and Laila Orr was third in the B race, with both girls clocking 11.6secs, and Orlaith Clarke-Malone was fifth over 150m.

Laila, Ellie, Sinead and Abigail then teamed up to finish fourth in the 4x100m relay in 63.5secs.

In the field events, Sarah Ashcroft was fourth in both the A long jump and A shot put while Emily Kinsey came fifth in the B long jump, Ellie Barker fourth in the A high jump and Cara Gregory fourth in the A javelin.

Meanwhile, Warrington Athletics Club’s Louise Blizzard had an excellent Great North Run as she was the 28th woman to finish the race having qualified for the elite start.

With the half-marathon race being run over a different course this year due to the pandemic, it was hillier than usual but Blizzard recorded a good time of 1hour 30mins 1sec.

Dominic Ellis also ran, clocking a time of 2hours 29mins 37secs.

There were two age group wins for Warrington athletes at Sunday’s Wilmslow Running Festival.

Colin Bishop was fifth overall in the 10km race, with his time of 36mins 5secs seeing him win the over 60s age group.

In the half-marathon, Steve Watmough was the first over 55s runner home and 39th overall in 1hour 17mins 55secs while Paul Bagan placed 11th in the over 40s category and 66th overall by clocking 1hour 20mins 45secs.

Prior to the Wilmslow run, Bagan had competed in the Village Bakery half-marathon in Wrexham on September 5, clocking 1hour 19mins 2secs to finish 18th in the over 40s.
