HARRIET Knowles-Jones returned to competitive action for the first time in over two years on Saturday.
The former under 20s European cross country champion made her comeback as part of the Warrington Athletics Club team that sparkled on home soil during the North West Road Relays at Birchwood Business Park, which also incorporated the Cheshire Road Relay Championships.
Forming part of the under 20/senior women's A team, Knowles-Jones took the baton from masters athlete Clare Andrew and by the time she handed over to Jess Connolly, she had recorded the fifth-fastest time of the day to move the team into sixth place.
Unfortunately, Connolly picked up an injury on the final leg but battled through to secure the team a Cheshire silver medal with a total time of 1hour 8mins 40secs.
Overall, Warrington teams won four Cheshire golds, the solitary silver and two bronzes, with the outstanding under 20/senior men's A team adding a North West gold to the tally.
Cameron Field's excellent run of 17mins 48secs meant he handed over to Chris Stanford with the team in second place, and he edged Warrington into the lead by clocking 18mins 32secs.
Brandon Quinton took over and stormed clear so that by the time Joe Buckley's final leg started, the team led by 42 seconds.
Buckley opened up the lead even further as they stormed to victory 1min 20secs clear of their nearest rivals.
There were two Cheshire medals in the under 13s girls' race, with the A team of Ellie Barker, Sinead Gregory and Emily Kinsey picking up gold while Cara Gregory, Anna Prescott and Sarah Ashcroft combined to win bronze.
The boys also won Cheshire gold as Archie Marwood, Joe Welsby and Ben Woods were fourth overall.
The under 11s age group saw both the boys' and girls' teams bring home county golds.
Euan Lawton led the boys' team off with the fastest time of the day – 5mins 22secs – to give them a lead that was maintained by Nathan Parry and while Eddie Walker ran superbly, he could not hold off Salford Harriers.
It meant they finished with a North West silver as well as the Cheshire gold.
The girls team of Eva Hayes, Allanah Donlan and Grace Rushud combined to win Cheshire gold, with Eva running the fastest time by a Cheshire under 11s athlete.
The under 15s girls were county gold medalists as Alice Nicholson, Esme Heavey and Harriet Bell were fifth place overall.
In the same age group, the boys A team of Jack Marwood, Jacob Pryor and Rory Gregory were Cheshire silver medalists and eighth place overall.
