FOR the second week in a row, Woolston Rovers ‘A’ secured bragging rights over one of their neighbours.

Their ‘derby’ with Crosfields A at Hood Lane on Saturday resulted in a 24-10 victory for the Green and Golds, seven days after they saw off Culcheth Eagles.

Ashley Catterall’s try had put Soap ahead but Sam Wood forced his way over five minutes later to nudge the visitors into the lead.

Callum Harnett-Smy then finished off Olly Hands’ break before Elliot Best collected his own kick to score, with three Craig Lawton conversions giving Rovers an 18-6 lead at the break.

Crosfields’ Dylan Miller was then sin-binned for dissent before being sent off for punching shortly afterwards in a melee that also saw Soap’s Alex Clutterbuck yellow-carded.

The impressive Hands then set up Simon Bishop for the try that sealed the victory for Rovers although the hosts did have the final say thanks to Mitch McJay’s try.

“The boys really did produce a performance to be proud of – every single player gave their all and we thoroughly deserved the win,” Rovers A coach Liam Lawton said.

“We had a gameplan that we thought would make us difficult to beat and that proved to be the case.

“To win away from home in a derby game in the manner that we did is very pleasing.”

Meanwhile, Latchford Albion marked their first home game of the season with a convincing 44-20 victory over Oldham St Annes A.

Matty Nash and Charlie McCurrie both scored twice while Matty Rudd was once again in excellent goal-kicking form for Martyn Ellis’ side.

Matty Ellis, Declan Rourke, Ben Harper and Jack Phillips also crossed for Albion.

Culcheth Eagles were crushing 54-0 winners at Rochdale Mayfield A, with Col Moore scoring a hat-trick of tries while Gaz Burrows and Harry Talbot both scored twice.

Paul Martin, Jake Knox and Mike Harrison also crossed for the Eagles.

Burtonwood Bridge edged out Golborne Parkside 16-14 to complete the weekend’s action.
