DARYL Powell's match record against Warrington Wolves while in charge at Castleford Tigers is slightly in the red.

He has won 10 and lost 12 of the 22 meetings with The Wire since his switch from Featherstone Rovers in May, 2013.

Most recently, he has won four and lost five of the encounters during Steve Price's tenure as head coach at the Wire – the latest coming on the opening day of the 2021 season on March 28.

To Powell's credit, these results have been achieved at a club with considerably less spending power – and pound for pound the statistics will be more than favourable.

Over nine years, Powell's Cas have scored 433 points against Warrington but conceded 521. The average result against The Wire during his time at The Jungle is a 24-20 loss.

The biggest win came on Easter Monday, 2014, when Cas rolled Warrington 40-6 at home.

He has suffered six defeats, all prior to 2017, where Warrington have scored 40 points or more, with the heaviest loss being 56-12 in 2016 when Powell's side was heavily depleted through injuries.

A couple of performances stand out for their significance.

Powell brought his men to The Halliwell Jones Stadium in the 2019 play-offs and edged a tight battle 14-12 that ended Warrington's campaign.

And early in the 2017 campaign - a week after Wire's World Club Series success over Brisbane Broncos - Powell prepared his team to bring Warrington down to earth with a huge crash that they never really recovered from, while Cas won the League Leaders' Shield and reached their only Grand Final of Powell's reign so far.
