A NEW small-sided football league for women of all standards is scheduled to start when lockdown ends and the easing of restrictions allow.

And Tottenham Hotspur professional player Ashleigh Neville,in association with the FA, is backing the new venture in order to help increase participation in women's football.

The six-a-side league, to be run by Soccersixes – a company specialising in the organisation of small-sided football – will be held weekly and based at Broomfields Leisure Centre on its 3G surface on Friday nights.

Neville said: "Having visited their leagues I was impressed by the organisation and professionalism.

"I am very happy to be supporting the new women’s leagues and getting involved.

"Women’s football has grown massively in recent years and a lot of women are now involved in playing football.

"The new six-a-side leagues will make it easy for any woman, of any standard, who wants to play football, to be able to play football weekly in an organised league."

There will be divisions for different standards, so every woman over the age of 16 who wants to play football can join the league.

Teams will play a 40-minute match each week with a qualified referee.

Taking part will cost £4 per player and all equipment will be provided.

The league will be open to teams who wish to join and also to single players, who will be entered into a team once joining.

You may simply be a group of friends, work colleagues or even mates from the pub who wish to form a team.

Sixes staff will attend the league each week to ensure the smooth running of fixtures and to deal with any queries.

The league will be fully affiliated to the FA.

Soccersixes' Jade Formaston, who is a professional woman’s footballer for Derby County, said: "This league has been organised for the benefit of the local woman in the community and it’s an exciting event which women can become involved in.

"It’s great that Ashleigh Neville is supporting and launching the leagues and will be presenting trophies at the end of the season if not busy playing for Tottenham.

"Soccersixes website offers teams the chance to log on and see league tables, fixtures, top players and all general information regarding the league. We aim to ensure that all women enjoy the weekly experience. We will work hard to ensure the league is a huge success."
