WARRINGTON Wolves’ pre-season will look very different this time around.

Usually, preparations for a new campaign under Steve Price have been supplemented by things like army camps, charity challenges and overseas training blocks.

With Covid-19 now severely restricting movements in general life as well as at training, the squad must stick to the locality as they get themselves ready for the 2021 campaign.

With that in mind, head of performance Ade Gardner says there is a danger of things becoming repetitive which could in turn damage motivation among players.

Now, the biggest challenge for him is to keep the squad enthused in training as they build themselves up for another hectic campaign.

“It's really difficult as we’ve had a lot of things put down with Covid,” he said.

“We were going to take them for hill runs, to do some training at Formby Beach, if anything just to get them off site and do something a little bit different and more challenging to your standard pre-season running.

“With the way things are, we can’t really do anything like that.

“With pre-season, you’re in all the time and your workloads are high, so it’s about trying to keep them psychologically engaged and stop them from getting bored.

“It can wreak havoc with your motivation levels at the back end of pre-season, so we’re trying ways to just tweak things here and there.

“That’s going to be the challenge over the next couple of weeks – making sure everybody remains engaged with what we’re trying to do.”
