A quiet week on the banksides, but Frank Lythgoe lifts the lid on Warrington Anglers Association's afternoon at the Northern Angling Show...

THE Northern Angling Show at EventCity in Manchester last weekend was definitely a cracker and a great atmosphere, where it was really nice to meet existing members and also welcome new ones into Warrington Anglers Association.

The banter on our stand was second to none and there was the inevitable cream cake ‘pie face’ incident that unfortunately backfired on me.

Thanks must go to the show organisers, the companies and other angling clubs who supported the event.

Likewise, thanks to those members who kindly shared their catch pics and to our team of volunteers who staffed our stand throughout. Definitely looking forward to the 2021 event, see you all there.

As regards angling reports, well there are not too many members on the banksides at present, with floods and muddy conditions understandably keeping them at home.

However, Mike Pritchard exploited a brief respite in the weather on Saturday and fished the Bridgewater Canal near Houghs Bridge.

His initial swim produced nothing so a move three pegs further towards Walton Park produced a bite on his first cast.

Mike usually sticks to running line tactics and his homemade floats and caught initially on bread but alternated with pinkie for a string of small roach.

A change to caster brought a better stamp of fish and he ended his three-hour session with over 4½lbs of fish.

Our Monday disabled and over 60s match – fished on the Bridgewater Canal at Moore near the ‘Tramps Grave’ – was a real struggle and was won this week by Roy Rogers with a catch of 20 tiny roach on bread punch for 0lbs 6ozs 2drs.

John Mills and Jimmy Byrne took joint second place with 0-4-5. Needless to say, next week’s event is back at Houghs Bridge.

Any reports at this time of the year are welcome as there is not a lot happening, so good, bad, or indifferent, they will help fellow members to plan any trips to the bankside.
