ASHLEY Nemits cemented her status as one of the country’s most talented runners of her age at the weekend.

Warrington Athletics Club’s sprinting star brought home gold from the National Indoor Age Group Championships in Sheffield after dominating her 300m field.

The under 17s runner clocked 39.59secs in the final to claim top prize, lowering her time of 41.06secs she ran to win her heat.

Like Nemits, Katie Lowery had a good weekend as she ran for Edinburgh University Hare and Hounds in the Scottish Senior Women’s Cross Country Championships.

In wind, rain and sleet, Lowery ran excellently to finish 18th in 44mins 12secs, with her time helping her team take the bronze medal.

At the other end of the age spectrum, Colin Bishop was the first Masters runner to complete a wet and windy Ruthin 10km road race on Sunday.

Bishop was fifth overall in 36mins 13secs, placing him top of his over 60s age group.

Meanwhile, eight Warrington Athletics Club members braved the mud at the English National Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

The club’s best finisher was Rachel McQuillan, who came home 67th in the women’s under 20s race in 30mins 48secs.

In the same age group, Jack Wadsworth was 100th in 42mins 39secs ahead of Ben Webb (151st, 45mins 42secs) and Charlie Turnbull (164th, 47mins 29secs).
