EAGLE coach Steve Yates was particularly pleased with the improvement in his side’s lineout as they swept Wallasey aside on Saturday.

Their 49-0 victory kept up their perfect start to the season, with three wins from three taking them joint-top of the Halbro Division Four West.

That run faces its biggest test yet on Saturday in a league and cup double-header against fellow joint-leaders Oldershaw at Thornton Road.

Yates praised the forwards for laying a platform for some expansive rugby in their seven-try romp but highlighted the set-piece as particularly pleasing.

“One area we really had to improve on was our lineout,” he said.

“This week, I don’t think we lost one, with hooker Chris Broadfield finding his target time after time.

“I also was pleased with the scrummaging and it was great to see Kyle Jones back in the front row.

“From those platforms, we could really attack and with some good support play, the backs scored some quality tries.”
