WARRINGTON Athletics Club runners came home with seven sets of medals – including two golds – from the North West Counties Relays on Sunday.

It was the under 13s age group that proved the most profitable, with the boys and girls’ A teams picking up Cheshire Championship gold medals.

Jack Marwood, Matthew Seddon and Rory Gregory combined for an overall time of 31mins 47secs, which was the fifth fastest in the race but the quickest of the Cheshire teams.

For the girls, Alice Nicholson, Nia Wharton and Harriet Bell teamed up to finish fourth overall and first in Cheshire as they clocked a combined 34mins 14secs.

Five Warrington teams took Cheshire silver medals, including the senior men’s A team of Joe Buckley, Jordan Jones, Daniel Fox and Tom Greaves.

Their combined time of 1hour 6mins 41secs was enough for them to place 10th overall, with Buckley’s individual leg time of 15mins 35secs being the fastest of any Cheshire runner in the race.

The under 17s men also took Cheshire silver, with Joel Birchall, Isaaq Ataullah and Joe Roberts combining for a time of 53mins 20secs.

Emily Entwistle, Orla Gregory and Lucie Davies teamed up to win county silver in the under 15s girls’ race, with their time of 32mins 4secs good enough for third place overall.

Unfortunately, the senior women’s team of Louise Blizzard, Joanna Roberts and Emma Pryor just missed out on county medals as they combined time of 1hour 5mins 39secs placed them fourth in the Cheshire rankings.

Veteran runner David Gill was an age group winner at Sunday's Whistle Stop Wirral 10km road race – he was the first over 60s finisher in ninth place overall having clocked 39mins 31secs.

Much further afield, two former Warrington Athletics Club runners were competing in San Francisco last week.

Tom Jervis, who now runs for Hercules Wimbledon, won bronze in the final of the J P Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge series while Jack Green – now working in Australia – was 10th.
