WITH the success of England’s Lionesses putting women’s football very much on the map, one group of talented Appleton girls have pulled off an impressive feat of their own.

Appleton Avengers under 11s were crowned Cheshire champions after going through an entire season unbeaten.

Having also won an under 11s tournament in Sandbach and after performing well at the Airbus under 12s competition, they were invited to compete in Europe.

They ended up coming second in an invitational tournament in Holland against some of the country’s best teams.

Richard Whitehead, one of the team’s coaches, says he “could not be prouder” of his team.

“Girls’ football is exploding in Cheshire,” he said.

“Appleton FC alone has 140 plus registered and training each week.

“To go abroad and play is such an amazing experience for the girls and as coaches, we could not be prouder.”

The club are recruiting players in school years 7 and 8. Anyone wanting to join can get in touch by emailing girls.appletonafc@gmail.com
