WARRINGTON athletes produced UK leading times on their way to gold medals at the Cheshire Track and Field Championships.
The performances of Ashley Nemits and Meg Corker, which were of Championship best standard, were among the highlights of 18 titles being won by Warrington Athletics Club competitors at Victoria Park Arena over the weekend.
Orla Gregory secured the prestigious Marie Birkenhead Trophy in another high point.

Under 17s runner Nemits won the 300m in 39.5secs to improve the Championship best time set by Warrington’s Carys McAulay a few years ago and move to the top of the UK outdoor rankings.

Nemits also collected gold in the 200m in 25.2secs.
In her heat of the under 15s 75m hurdles Corker smashed her own Championship and UK leading time in winning her heat in 11.0secs.
Despite an unfavourable wind she was first over the line in the final in 11.2secs.

Gregory received the Marie Birkenhead Trophy, previously claimed by Warrington’s Paula Whitney, Hannah Tart, Harriet Knowles-Jones and Katie Lowery, after her victory in the under 15s 1500m in 4mins 45.9secs.

Over 50s runner Linda Dykes amazingly won the 100m/200m double in 16.6secs and 42.7secs respectively, despite a fall in the 200.
In the other women’s events, county titles were won at various age groups by Evie Schofield (70m hurdles 11.8secs), Rebecca Hardy (100m hurdles 15.9secs), Elizabeth Wright (400m 62.2sec) and Megan Kettle (hammer 34.87m).

County titles in the men’s age groups were won by Warrington’s Joe Buckley (5000m 15mins 32.4secs), Tom Greaves (5000m 16mins 24.7secs and 3000m 9mins 17.3secs), Jordan Jones (2000m steeplechase 6mins 22.7secs), Daniel Newman (3000m steeplechase 12mins 08.2secs), Jack Wadsworth (800m 2mins 03.9secs), Corey Beechall (high jump 1.35m)and Ryan Jones (javelin 36.55m).

All other Warrington athletes performed well, with 13 second and 12 third places.
Many runners, including title winners, achieved personal best performances.
Athletes in the under 15s and under 17s age groups now wait to find out if they will be selected for the inter county match later in the season.
