THE Easter weekend will prove pivotal as to whether it will be the league title or the play-offs for Warrington Town.

Yellows have two fixtures over the Bank Holiday period – they travel to Stalybridge Celtic this afternoon before hosting neighbours Witton Albion 48 hours later on Easter Monday, with both games kicking off at 3pm.

Defeat on Saturday coupled with a Farsley victory will end their title chances but Town boss Paul Carden still believes it could all come down to the final game.

“There’s still a few points to play for. We’ll see what happens,” he said.

“There was obviously a change on Saturday and I really think it’s going to go all the way to the last game. It will certainly go until Monday, I think.

“Our form has been good in the past few games and either way, we have to maintain that.”

WHERE DO YELLOWS STAND IN THE TITLE RACE?

Despite a 2-0 victory over Scarborough Athletic on Saturday – their fourth win in a row – they remain four points behind leaders Farsley Celtic with just three games remaining.

However, that victory coupled with South Shields' draw at home to Basford means they have now moved to within a point of the second-place Mariners.

As mentioned previously, a defeat at Stalybridge today coupled with a Farsley victory over Hyde United will mean they can no longer catch the Celts, thus ending their title challenge.

WHAT HAPPENS IF TOWN DO NOT FINISH TOP?

The only automatic promotion place from the Evo-Stik Premier Division goes to the champions, with the teams place between second and fifth contesting one-legged play-offs.

The top five currently consists of Yellows, South Shields, Nantwich Town and Gainsborough Trinity.

Of those teams, Carden's men have taken six points from both Shields and Trinity this season but have just one point to show from two games against their Cheshire rivals.

Town are guaranteed a top-three finish which means, at the very least, any play-off semi-final will be played at Cantilever Park.

Fans will remember that Yellows finished third last season, only to be beaten at home by Grantham Town in the play-off semi-finals.

The final will be played at the home ground of the highest-placed finalist, and the winner of that will go into a ‘super play-off’ with the Evo-Stik South Division Central play-off winners.

Currently occupying play-off spots in that division are Stourbridge, King's Lynn Town, Alvechurch and Stratford Town.
