Rylands 5 New Mills 0

PLAYER/CO-MANAGER Stuart Wellstead believes the chasing pack are under pressure after his Rylands side moved a step closer to promotion.

A five-goal showing against New Mills under the floodlights at Gorsey Lane stretched their lead at the top of the North West Counties League First Division South to seven points.

With just six games remaining, a place in the Premier Division is looking likely for Blues, whose victory on Tuesday night followed up a 3-1 win at Barnton on Saturday.

Tom McNamara’s double set Rylands on their way, with Garry Kenny, Warren Gerrard and Liam Moran also on the scoresheet for the hosts.

“At this stage of the season it's important to put pressure on the chasing teams and with two wins in two, we have done just that,” Wellstead said.

“New Mills started the game very brightly. They were certainly the better team for the first 20 minutes and were unlucky not to take the lead when they hit the post with a well-struck free kick.

“Once we got the first goal, the game opened up which suited us and we played some really good stuff at times.

“Special mention to Gaz Kenny for a wonderful goal and to Tom McNamara, who was a bundle of energy throughout.”

Blues are at home again on Saturday as FC Oswestry Town are the visitors to Gorsey Lane, kick off 3pm.
