East Leeds 24 Crosfields 22

A TRY in the final minute denied Crosfields what would have been a hard-fought victory against a physical East Leeds outfit.

Two late penalties from Jack Reid looked to give them a decisive lead late on until the hosts crashed over from the game’s final play.

The result makes it two wins and two defeats in National Conference League Division Two for Crosfields, for whom Dan Reid opened the scoring early on.

Namesake Jack added a penalty shortly after before two East Leeds tries gave them a half-time lead.

Luke Walker scythed through the home defence from a scrum to wrestle the initiative back as the lead continued to change hands, with Jack Lewis scoring from long distance after the hosts had nudged back in front again.

A home penalty had levelled matters at 18-18 before the late drama ensued and Soap were left disappointed.

“Losing to a last-minute try was hard to take after a great team effort,” head coach Ian Boden said.

“It's always a tough place to come to. We always expect a hard physical battle in the pack and at some point, we know they might start to play rugby.

“We managed the game well in the first half and came out of the blocks straight after the break, but we contributed to our own downfall and this game should have been put to bed by the hour mark.

“The positives continue to come out of our performances, and we know we need to be more clinical near the try line.”
