Lymm knock out Grasshoppers to reach Robinson's Brewery Cup Final

The 15-12 success in Saturday's semi final at Preston Grasshoppers will see them face Chester or Sedgley Park second teams in the decider on Saturday, May 4.

Lymm continue to chase honours on two fronts.

"This was a tough match against a Level 4 club but we improved as the game progressed and deserved our win," said Lymm coach Peter Millachip.

"We now have the target of winning the Conference B league, to ensure that we play in the Premiership next season, and of course to win the League Cup Final.”

It was perhaps no surprise that Lymm grew into the semi-final on a similar all-weather pitch to the one Lymm will have for home matches by next season.

An injury crisis at the club has led to the seconds fielding a diffrent side each week, with Saturday no exception.

“This week there were 11 changes to the previous week’s squad that defeated Vale of Lune," said Millachip.

"So, as with most weeks, it takes time for the team to settle into a game.

"We have a wealth of talent at the club and this has sustained us and the first XV through a difficult season."

Lymm came back from 11-3 adrift to secure their ticket for the final.

They were more settled in the second half, with the wind behind them, and Josh Davies touched down to cut the deficit.

Ollie Thornton finished off the decisive score.

Jake Ashall, who had moved to centre, made a 20-metre bullocking run from the halfway line.

He offloaded for Thornton, who had just come on as a replacement, to scamper between the sticks, with Davies converting.

The seconds visit Rossendale on Saturday, while the first team are at home to Ilkley, kick-off 3pm.
