Guardian sports reporter Matt Turner catches up with Steve Price ahead of The Wire's trip to Catalans Dragons...

MT: A quick injury and availability update – any new injuries ahead of the weekend?

SP: No, we’re all fit and healthy. We’ve pulled up in pretty good spirits from Friday’s game.

Ben Westwood will come into consideration this weekend after his ban but other than that, we’ve got a number of guys fighting for that bench spot who have been performing well for Rochdale.

MT: The temptation may be to throw Bennie straight back in, but a couple of guys have been performing well in his stead haven’t they?

SP: They certainly have been. I was pleased with all the forwards against Huddersfield – they held themselves to the standard we expect every week.

It’s a good headache to have. I’ll make my decision later on in the week.

MT: It’s a five-day turnaround after this game – does that come into your thinking at all in terms of selection?

SP: No, it doesn’t. It’s only early days and the players are getting continuity and are getting into the groove.

That hasn’t played a part. We manage our training loads well and I’ve got confidence in the staff to adapt to long and short turnarounds.

MT: You brought Jake Mamo into the side on Friday. Are you looking at him in a similar way to how Wigan used Morgan Escare off the bench last year? In terms of rotating the spine around for spells?

SP: Not at the moment. We have to grow our spine with Blake, Dec, Daryl and Stef in it.

The more times they can play together and build that continuity, the better they’re going to be so there’s no consideration like that at the moment.

Jake gives us that versatility in the outside backs. He’s a tough critter and competes hard for everything so I see him playing an important part off the bench.

MT: Was there a temptation to leave Danny Walker in there with Daryl Clark being a bit ill?

SP: Danny certainly came into consideration but I thought Daryl did really well to play 80 minutes considering he’d been ill all day.

He got the coach’s award last week. He did the little things right and fought for everything – that’s what we stand for here.

In saying that, I’ve been really pleased with what Danny has been doing with the time he’s had. It’s a long season and all players have to be ready.

MT: A great result at Huddersfield and a lot of things were very good, but the game finished with a run of penalties late on. Is that down to a lack of concentration more than anything?

SP: There was a bit of a concentration issue either side of half-time and at the back end of the game.

You could say the boys got a little bit comfortable having got out to a 32-10 lead. The game was gone by then, but we mark ourselves hard here and we’re always looking for perfect practice.

We’ll keep working hard in training and look for better consistency throughout, but its very pleasing to see the team progress how they have.

MT: Is the discipline issue something you can do much about as a coaching group or do the players have to take ownership of that?

SP: It’s a mixture. As coaches, we have to put them in scenarios in which they are challenged.

By the same token, the players need to hold themselves accountable for things like that.

It’s early days and I know what kind of footy team I have here. I have a group that cares about each other and the jersey. I’m confident we’ll sort it out.

MT: Onto Catalans now – how do you assess them as a team?

SP: They’re a tough football team – a different proposition at home.

They have a strong forward pack that can throw a bit of second phase at you and a new halves combination with Gigot and Smith and also Sam out of the back.

They’re still trying to work each other out but we certainly won’t be underestimating them.

It’s about our continual growth and focusing on our discipline and concentration for 80 minutes. If we do that, I can’t ask for much more.

MT: You mentioned the new combinations they have in there – they seem to be still figuring out what their best system is so with that in mind, is this a good time to play them?

SP: They’re working themselves out like most teams are at this stage, trying to look for that perfect fit in the spine.

There’s a couple of things around that which we’ve worked on, but it’s predominantly about us going out there and playing Wolves football.

The boys are looking forward to getting over to France on Saturday.
