WITH the Evo-Stik Premier Division title race coming to the boil nicely, Yellows landed a body blow on one of their rivals as they won 2-1 at South Shields yesterday.

While it gave them a significant lead over the Mariners, the victory was not enough to take them top of the table.

That honour still belongs to Farsley Celtic, who won 2-1 at Matlock Town yesterday thanks to a late winner from former Warrington defender Jack Higgins.

Town and Farsley are locked together on 65 points and a +34 goal difference, but the Celts lead by virtue having scored 66 goals so far this season compared to Yellows' 55.

However, the Yorkshiremen have a crucial game in hand – a clash with rock-bottom North Ferriby United on a date to be confirmed.

South Shields are five points further back, while Nantwich are still clinging onto the coattails of the top three on 57 points ahead of their trip to Cantilever Park on Saturday.
