WARRINGTON Wolves forward Joe Philbin highlighted some key areas in the win against Wakefield that will require improvement in Thursday’s semi-final against St Helens.

The 23-year-old also felt he and his pack colleagues got better at one particular aspect of their place in Friday’s 36-23 Super 8s success at Belle Vue.

“It was important we came away with the result and we did do a few good things that we want to take into the semi final, while also having a few things to work on,” he said.

“Sometimes it’s pretty tough in those type of games where you’re looking on to a big game, for example, but we got the job done and that’s all that matters.”

He added: “As a pack we’ve been trying to get a few tip-on plays, working with each other rather than going out on our own, and I thought we got a little bit better at that.

“We could get better at finishing in the corners with our kicking game to get them coming off their try line. That’s something we’ll look to fix this week.”

Warrington were trailing 13-6 in the first half but showed great resolve to get their noses in front in the second half and keep them there.

“I thought we did alright in defence in that first half but we just had to do too much of it,” he said.

“I think Pricey (head coach Steve Price) said at half time we were at 56 percent completion.

“You’re not really giving yourself a chance with that.

“There were a few too many errors but in the second half I thought we came out firing and we got better.

“But a few soft tries were conceded that we could do with fixing really.”
