RILEY Dean’s drop-goal ensured The Wire’s under 19s finished the season in style with a dramatic victory.
Dean kept his cool in the game's final play to secure victory for Chris Rudd’s side in the final match they will play together as a team.
Henry Collins, Lewis Hall and Jamie Abram scored tries for The Wire, with Dean successfully adding conversions for all three tries.
Rudd, who will hand over the reins to incoming academy head coach Paul Anderson next year, was full of praise for his players’ attitude after he took over mid-season from Stuart Barrow.
“That was a great way to end the season for the lads,” he said.
“I cannot praise them enough for the way they have conducted themselves over the past couple of months.
“It hasn’t always been easy but they have never let their heads drop and they have stuck together throughout.
“We told them to go out today and give everything they’ve got for each other as it is the last time they will play together as this group, and they certainly did just that.
“To get the victory in such a dramatic fashion was unbelievable.”
