Waterhead Warriors 10

Woolston Rovers 42

WOOLSTON Rovers produced a superb all-round team display in their final regular fixture of the Kingstone Press National Conference League Division Three season.

Victory, the platform for which was laid in the first half, sees Rovers finish in fifth place, level on points with Millom and Clock Face Miners.

Tries in the first half from Theo Holt and Conner Muir were added to by further efforts from Aaron Barber, Adam Files, Ryan Hickman and Harry Files before Waterhead responded with two scores of their own.

Harry Files had the last laugh with his second touch down.

“We have been looking for this performance for a few weeks and it couldn’t have come at a better time with the play-offs starting this week," said Rovers head coach Mal Holt.

"We were outstanding from start to finish and never let Waterhead get into the game.

"Our pack was immense yet again, very physical in attack and this allowed the backs to get on a roll and put some great plays on.

"We were in complete control of all aspects of the game and for once we went for the kill and punished them time after time.”

Man of the match Muir was pushed to the nod by Adam Files, Holt and Harry Files.

WOOLSTON Rovers A returned to league action for the first time in seven weeks and the rustiness told as the curtain fell on their campaign.

Spells of play kept their opponents pinned back in their own half but these were too infrequent.

Tries were scored by Josh Bray, Mike Ward, two, and Jimmy Evans.

After the game Rovers ‘A' coach Andy Penny said, “It was disappointing to finish the season with a loss but I could not fault the efforts of the players," said head coach Andy Penny.

"It has been a frustrating time with going so long without playing and that certainly showed but we can now draw a line under it and move forward for next year.

"We have finished third in the league table despite some tough times so the boys can be proud of that and hopefully that will stand us in good stead for next year.”

Rovers A: Alex Dunne; Dan Farrell, Jay Ryder, Olly Parr, Josh Bray; Ethan Jude, Callum Moore; Richard Potts, Tom Gaskell, Owen Hazlehurst, Niall Toher, Mike Ward, Nathan Evans. Subs: Jimmy Evans, Kieran Moore.
