Newcastle Thunder u19 0 Warrington Wolves u19 46

WARRINGTON Wolves’ under 19s “did exactly what was asked of them” during Saturday’s crushing win at Newcastle.

Winger Liam Brinksman scored a hat-trick as The Wire returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion on Tyneside.

Henry Collins and substitute Jamie Abram both crossed twice, with further tries coming from Cole Oakley and Richie Westwood while Riley Dean added five goals.

Despite seeing his side pile on the points, however, interim head coach Chris Rudd said he was most satisfied with a defensive effort which saw his side keep the hosts off the scoresheet.

“The boys did exactly what we asked of them,” he said.

“We had trained really well in the week and had focused on putting in a good all-round team performance, and that is what we did.

“Some of our attacking play was sublime, but the most pleasing aspect was the way that we defended as a unit and snuffed out the Newcastle attack with some really tough tackling.

“To ‘nil’ any side is a great effort and I was delighted with that.”

Rudd’s side are next in action next Thursday when they take on Catalans Dragons at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

The game acts as a curtain-raiser to the Super League game between the two clubs and kicks off at 5pm.
