TYRONE Roberts says his troublesome knee injury is still not fully healed but says it is “no excuse” for failing to perform.

After debuting for The Wire in the opening game of 2018 against Leeds Rhinos, the playmaker missed the following two games before returning for last week’s win over Wigan.

He came through the 16-10 victory unscathed and will take his place in Steve Price’s team once more as they travel to Hull FC tomorrow, Friday.

The Australian says he enjoyed being part of last week’s win and is keen to kick on with building up the strength in his knee.

“The knee is building up, but it’s still not quite at full strength,” he said.

“I can’t use it as an excuse though. I can’t put a hat around it.

“It’s just a thing that’s going to be there for a bit longer and something I have to manage.

“The wins build confidence within the team and the combinations are getting better at the same time.

“I always had confidence the boys would turn up and I was glad to be part of the win.

“It was a great experience against a rival club and its helped gel us together even more.”

While The Wire’s defence has caught the eye in their four Super League games under Price so far, things have not been quite as fluent in attack.

They improved going forward against the Warriors last week, but Wolves have failed to reach 20 points so far in 2018.

However, Roberts insists the points will come but admits defence still remains the team’s focus in training.

“It’s only the very beginning, but we have to make sure we stay consistent and keep building on what we’ve done in the past couple of weeks,” he said.

“Not many people remember the first four games of a season. They remember how you finish.

“There’s combinations within the team that are going to get stronger.

“There will be more points scored, but at this stage we’re just happy to get the wins.

“The boys back themselves in D and that’s what we’ve been working hard on in training.”

Roberts will have a new half-back partner at the KCOM Stadium tomorrow as Declan Patton comes into the side, replacing the injured Kevin Brown.

The former Newcastle Knights and Gold Coast Titans man says there is “no real pressure” on Patton but has backed the academy graduate to do a job for The Wire.

“I did plenty of training with Dec in pre-season when Kev was off after the World Cup,” he said.

“I know what he’s about and I’ve got confidence in him to do his job.

“There’s no real pressure on him I don’t think. He’s just got to know his role and do it to the best of his ability.”

Tomorrow, Wolves face an FC side that have lost their past two league games as well as a friendly against NRL side St George Illawarra Dragons on their trip to Australia.

Roberts believes there is an unpredictability about the Black and Whites and that he does not quite know what to expect from them.

“Hull are a great side. You can’t really predict what they’re going to bring,” he said.

“We can’t underestimate them because they can bring anything.

“It’s all about us though, we need to focus on what we can bring.

“We have to make sure we put into practice what we’re doing in training.”
