THERE were plenty of personal-best performances from some of Warrington Athletics Club’s younger members at Sale Harriers’ open indoor meeting on Sunday.

Rebecca Hardy set two new marks at Manchester’s Sportcity, with the first coming in the women’s under 20s 60m race as she won in 8.43secs.

Next, Hardy took on the 60m hurdles and, while her time of 9.50secs was not quite enough to win, it secured second place and a new personal best.

Tom McKean also lowered his best 60m time in the boys’ under 15s race as he finished second in 8.03secs.

That came after he won his 200m race, clocking 26.06secs.

Shauna Clarke and Amelia Smithers were busy in the under 13s age group, setting personal-best times in all their running events.

Clarke came third in the 60m by clocking 9.06secs, while Smithers set a time of 9.28secs to finish just behind her teammate in fifth.

Smithers then came sixth in 1min 57.01secs in the 600m, with Clarke eighth in 2mins 5.04secs. Smithers also jumped 3.58m in the long jump.

Under 17s Cameron Duff and Lucas Hayes also represented the club, with the latter finishing third in the 60m hurdles and clearing 1.50m in the high jump while the former came fourth in the 200m.

Elsewhere, three Warrington Athletics Club members travelled to Helsby to run in the Essar 4 Villages Half Marathon, which also incorporated the Northern Masters Championships.

Andrew Green was the first club member home, battling through snow, sleet and rain to win the V55 category with a time of 1hr 17mins, which placed him 16th overall.

Nick Jones, who suffers from Crohn’s disease, struggled in the freezing conditions, dropping several places as he finished sixth in the V40 category but he took Northern Masters bronze.

After finishing 30th overall in 1hr 20mins, Jones collapsed after crossing the finish line and needed medical treatment, but he has since recovered well.

Dave Norman, who was using the race as a tempo run, completed the course in 1hour 29mins but that was enough for a Northern Masters gold medal.
