WHILE Wolves may not be advertising for an “unofficial Australian recruitment officer,” Kurt Gidley says he is more than happy to play the role.
After two years with The Wire, Gidley has retired from rugby league and has returned to his New South Wales hometown of Newcastle.

However, Gidley says he has already had conversations about potential new players with chief executive Karl Fitzpatrick and is happy to do so again.
“I’ve got three teams now; my junior club West Newcastle, Newcastle Knights and The Wire!” he said.
“They are the only teams I’ll ever support. I hope someone from this club is holding the Super League trophy at the end of next season.
“I’ve had that bit of input with Karl and Simon Moran already. I’ll always be an unofficial recruitment officer for the club in Australia!
“Any time they want to pick up the phone and ask about an NRL player who could come over, I’d be more than happy to offer my advice.”
Gidley will watch on from afar as The Wire rebuild with a view to challenging for honours once again in 2018.
He is one of nine players known to be leaving the club, while Penrith’s Sitaleki Akauola is as yet the only confirmed arrival for next year.
