WOLVES picked up their most convincing win of the season as they brushed aside Featherstone Rovers.

Peta Hiku grabbed a hat-trick for The Wire as they ran in 12 tries at Post Office Road, with Jack Hughes, Harvey Livett and Jack Johnson crossing twice each.

Stefan Ratchford, Ben Pomeroy and Andre Savelio also crossed for Wolves, whose winning run stretches to nine.

In Tony Smith’s final away game in charge, Wolves put in a blistering first-half display that saw them 12-0 to the good before their opposition had even touched the ball.

After a move from the base of the scrum sent Hiku over for the seventh game in succession, the same player’s break ended with Ratchford going between the posts.

Livett somehow forced his way over in the left corner despite intense pressure to make it 16-0 inside the first 10 minutes before Hughes screamed onto Chris Hill’s short ball to grab his first try of the afternoon.

Pomeroy capped his side’s irresistible start by crossing in the corner before Wolves had to repel back-to-back Featherstone sets on their own line, the only time their defence was tested before the interval.

Barely a minute after coming on, Savelio latched onto a sweet reverse move to carry several defenders over the line.

Hughes then backed up Ratchford’s break to put the seal on Wolves’ telling opening period.

Hiku took advantage of an overlap created by Matty Russell’s break to double his tally before Livett scored a carbon-copy try on the other edge, dummying a pass to the wing before muscling over.

Featherstone were not without their moments as they forced three straight sets on the Wire try line, but the visitors’ defence held firm and they stretched their lead further in the later stages.

Improvised play which saw Ben Currie and Ratchford kick ended with Johnson touching down in the corner before Hiku again took advantage of poor Featherstone tackling to complete his treble.

The New Zealand international then sent Johnson in to complete the rout in the final minute of the game.
