JOHN Fieldhouse says the experience in his Woolston Rovers side proved telling as they picked up the Stuart Middleton Foundation Cup.

The men from Monks Sports Club claimed the trophy by beating Latchford Albion 44-16 in Wednesday's final.

Troy Brophy scored a hat-trick of tries for Rovers, for whom Sean Conway, Theo Holt, Matt Clarke, Alex Dunne and Glyn Roberts also crossed.

Latchford, who led 16-14 in the second half at Victoria Park, had Adam Wadsworth, Phil Woolacott and Fraser Jones-Lake on the scoresheet.

However, it was the Green and Golds that won the day much to the delight of head coach Fieldhouse.

“When we went behind just after half time it would have been easy for the heads to drop but we responded almost immediately and after that we managed to take control,” Rovers head coach Fieldhouse said.

“We played a lot better in the second half and managed to score some excellent tries.

“Latchford put us under pressure for long periods, especially in the first half.

“They showed that they have plenty of quality in their ranks, but our extra experience told in the last half an hour which allowed us to move clear and get the win.”

Woolston Rovers A 48 Culcheth Eagles 0

JOINT-COACH Andy Penny hailed his “unstoppable” Woolston Rovers A side as they made it a cup double for the club on Thursday.

Their hammering of Culcheth Eagles secured the Warrington Alliance Cup at Victoria Park as Callum Moore, Sam Files and Kieran Jones all scored twice.

Patryk Mazur, Niall Toher and Adam Files also crossed the whitewash as Rovers ‘nilled’ their neighbours.

“The boys were terrific from the first minute until the last and really did turn on the style,” Penny said.

“We have worked really hard over the course of the season to get where we are and I thought we were unstoppable.”

“The defensive effort was a highlight because to ‘nil’ a side as strong as Culcheth have been takes some doing.

“That then enabled us to shine in attack and we scored some great tries.”
