WARRINGTON Athletics Club was well represented in Sunday’s London Marathon, with two veteran runners securing impressive finishes.

Graham Green finished fifth in the over 50s category, and 353rd overall, by completing the gruelling course in 2hrs 41mins 19secs.

Steve Watmough was not far behind him as he recorded a new personal best time of 2hrs 43mins 50secs, which was good enough for 14th place in the over 50s rankings and 473rd overall.

Three of the club’s younger runners were also in London to represent the north west in the Mini Marathon, with Lauren Ferris finishing 51st in the girls’ under 17s race with a time of 18mins 27 secs.

In the boy’s under 15s race, Joe Buckley stopped the clock at 16mins 1sec to finish 45th, with clubmate Jordan Jones just behind him in 49th after finishing five seconds later.

Cinnamon Brow’s Louise Blizzard, competing in her 23rd London Marathon, got round the course in 3hrs 19mins 54secs.

Elsewhere, Jack Green recorded his first race win by taking victory in the Whitley 10km road race on Sunday.

He came home in 35mins 20secs, while Merv Ward scooped victory in the over 60s category with a time of 40mins 27secs.

On Saturday, the club’s under 13s and under 15s took part in their first Youth Development League match of the season at Victoria Park.

Meg Corker was the star performer for the girl’s under 13s as she won the 70m hurdles, 75m and long jump events.

Olivia Chamun won the A Javelin and B Shot competitions, while Orla Gregory and Maisie Bell were victorious in the A and B 1200m races respectively.

In the under 15s age group, Ashley Nemits smashed her 200m personal best and also won her 300m race.

Charlotte Stokes won the B 300m, while a new personal best secured victory in the B 800m for Emily Jackson.

For the boys, Dominiks Norviss won the under 13s A high jump, while there were B victories for Alex Lavery, 800m, Jacob Cox, 1500m, and Daniel Hartland, Javelin.

Jack Garner was the only individual winner in the boy’s under 15s age group as he took first place in the B 80m hurdles final.
