RUNNERS from several Warrington clubs were out in force for the latest leg of the North West Cross Country League on Sunday, with several promising finishes.
In total, almost 300 runners finished the third leg of the competition at Liverpool’s Otterspool Promenade.
Karl Steinegger, of the Birchwood-based Spectrum Striders club, was the best finisher as he came home second in the men’s race.
Jonathan Smith of Lymm Runners finished eighth, with Warrington Road Runners’ Mark Heavey placing 10th.
Tom Greaves (Warrington Road Runners, 14th), Chris Millington (Spectrum, 22nd), Daniel Peers (Spectrum, 23rd), Steve Thompson (Warrington Road Runners, 25th) and Alexander Lewis (Warrington Running Club, 30th) also enjoyed successful afternoons by finishing in the top 30.
The overall team standings for the men’s section sees Spectrum Striders stay in third place but Lymm and Warrington jump two places to fourth. Warrington Running Club sit in 13th place.
In the ladies field, there were three finishes inside the top 30, with Warrington Running Club’s Bobbie Lomax the pick of the bunch as she came home eighth.
Spectrum’s Liz Whitfield finished 11th, with teammate Jane Lowe coming home 25th.
The results mean Spectrum are fourth in the overall ladies’ standings, with Warrington and Lymm in ninth and Warrington Running Club just behind them in tenth.
The next leg of the North West Cross Country League will be hosted by Pensby RC on Sunday, December 18, at Wirral’s Arrowe Park.
