THE impact made at Super League level by Warrington Wolves youngster Kevin Penny has come as no surprise to staff and students at his former College.

Penny has made a sensational start to his senior career at Wolves, crossing for a brace of tries against Leeds in the league and then one at world champions St Helens in the Challenge Cup.

He showed his potential class while at Priestley College when, in 2005, he romped in for a record 17 tries in nine appearances for the college's rugby league side that went on to become national champions.

Academically, Penny completed the BTEC First Diploma in Sport at the Loushers Lane campus and was successfully able to progress on to the BTEC Certificate award before Wolves came calling and glory on the rugby field beckoned.

Penny also fended off stiff competition that year to defeat all his fellow peers to be named the college's sports personality of the year.

Speaking with regard to Penny's success, head of sport Nigel Howells commented: "We were very happy to hear of Kevin's recent success at Super League level and, as with all professional sports, we know there is no substitute for pace and he has that in abundance.

"I look forward to studying his progress for the rest of the season and beyond and take this opportunity on behalf of Priestley College to wish him all the best in the hope he can further develop his raw potential. I know that he is in excellent hands at Warrington."
