WOLVES prop Ashton Sims says he is happy to be back from his enforced break ahead of the crunch clash with leaders Hull FC tomorrow, Friday.

The veteran Aussie missed his first game of the season against St Helens last week after he was handed a one-match ban for his role in a punch-up with Leeds’ Brad Singleton in the previous game.

While admitting he wished he had played in the 26-4 win at Langtree Park, the 31-year-old expressed his pride in how the team coped in his absence.

“I thought we played great last week under a bit of adversity with some injuries at a tough place to play,” he said.

“I was watching the warm-up and was starting to get a little bit nervous as I’m not a good watcher.

“I had my young son Kobe with me and he had to nudge me a couple of times to tell me to be quiet.

“I’ve served my penalty and I’m happy to be back in the team now but I was so proud to watch the blokes really dig in and get a good win.

“I feel refreshed, you never want to miss a game but, in hindsight, it was probably a good time to have a bit of a rest.”

Sims will now look to regain his place in Tony Smith’s starting line-up from former Leeds prop Ryan Bailey, who acquitted himself well in his first start for the club.

The Fiji international says the result was testament to the strength of the Wolves squad.

“That’s one thing about our squad this year, we’ve got a lot of belief in our depth,” he said.

“But I think guys like Ryan Bailey, Sam Wilde and Benjamin Jullien came in and really took our places well.

“I’d seen Ryan play from back home over the years, you don’t win six Premierships, a couple of Challenge Cups and represent England just by luck.

“He works hard, his work ethic around the training ground is something the young guys can really look up to.

“Hopefully he can stay fit for the rest of the year. If he does he’ll be a really good asset for us.”

Before last week, Sims had formed a formidable front-row partnership with skipper Chris Hill and the pair had started every game in 2016 together.

Sims has received praise for his robust performances but insists his form can get better.

“I’m happy with my form without being satisfied, I think I’ve stepped it up a bit from last year but I suppose it’s up to other people to gauge that,” he said.

“Personally, I’m feeling good and happy with the way I’m going but I know I can keep on improving and get better as the season goes on.”

The former St George Illawara, Brisbane and North Queensland man joined The Wire ahead of the 2015 season and has made 45 appearances in primrose and blue so far.

Sims came over from Australia with a young family but says the people of Warrington have made adjusting to life in England easy.

“I absolutely love it here, the fans and the Warrington people have really embraced me and my family as well,” he said.

“We’re over in Stockton Heath and it’s great to have people come up and ask how we’re doing as I walk down the street with the wife and kids.

“It feels like home because it is home.”
