WOOLSTON Rovers head coach John Fieldhouse is confident his side can continue their recent good form in Saturday’s derby match with Rylands Sharks.
After wins at home to Oldham St Annes and away to Gateshead Storm, Rovers welcome the newly-promoted Sharks to Monk Sports Club looking for their third victory in a row.
Ahead of the game, Fieldhouse says he is happy with how his team is shaping up and says the game promises to be “a cracker”.
“We will be working hard once again in training this week on some areas that we need to improve in but overall I am very happy with the combinations we have built up,” he said.
“All the lads are buying into what we are building and hopefully we can perform to the best of our ability and get the right result.
“It should be a cracker with both sides fancying their chances.”
After a rip-roaring start in which they were 28-10 up at the break, Rovers allowed Gateshead back into last weekend’s game before eventually seeing out a 34-26 victory.
Despite the late comeback from the hosts, Fieldhouse felt were never in real danger of losing the game but says there are still things to work on.
“We played some superb stuff in the first half and built up a healthy lead and although Gateshead came back in the second half we were always in control,” he said.
“Some of our attacking play in the opening half an hour was scintillating but we slackened off a little after the break.”
“We had a couple of players who picked up knocks that affected us a little but that is something you have to cope with during games.”
