Warrington Town reserves 2 Mersey Valley 3
WARRINGTON Town reserves suffered a slip in the race for promotion when defensive errors cost them at least a share of the points against title rivals Mersey Valley on Saturday.
The win saw visitors Mersey Valley draw level on points with Town in Cheshire League Two
The game was played in extremely poor conditions and Warrington conceded after just five minutes following a defensive mistake that was pounced on by Kyle Watson.
However, as the match progressed the Yellows began to take control and equalised on 18 minutes when Dylan Glass calmly finished a well-worked goal.
Had Town finished their chances in the first half they could have gone in at half time in a commanding lead, but the sides remained level at the break.
Warrington started the second half the stronger team and took a 2-1 lead with 25 minutes remaining via a neat header from Glass.
But Mersey Valley levelled through Watson's second 11 minutes later and then secured all three points in the closing moments of the game following a goalmouth scramble that was turned in by Kieran Whitehead.
