TONY Smith will stick with Stefan Ratchford and Chris Sandow as his half-back partnership on Sunday, but admits new arrivals could have a bearing on who gets the nod next season.

Warrington Wolves visit Huddersfield Giants in the Super 8s Round 5, kick off 3pm, and Smith is likely to stick with a similar side to the one that beat Hull FC last week.

However, Ashton Sims will return after missing the 46-16 success through suspension.

But while Ratchford and Sandow look favourites to end the season in the halves, Smith says incoming Kurt Gidley will have a say on how Warrington line up in 2016.

“They worked well together,” said Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby. “There’s a fair likelihood that that will happen again this week.

“As for next year, we’ll deal with that next year. But it gives us an opportunity to look at how they combine at the moment – that’s what we’re doing at the moment.

“We’ll also have Kurt Gidley coming in, so he’ll have a bearing on what our half back combinations will be next year.”

Warrington Guardian:

Full back Jack Johnson impressed Smith during his debut on Sunday and is likely to feature again at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“We came through pretty good,” added Smith. “We’ve just got Ashton to return really. We haven’t had anyone unlikely to play.

“Jack will get another go after what he showed there the other day. He was more than solid, he did some really good things throughout the match.

“I would anticipate that he will gain selection once it’s finalised.”

Smith says the first-team experience gained by some of Wolves’ youngsters this season will prove invaluable, but does not expect to see any more Academy players stepping up before the end of the year.

“Jack was right at home there and he’s a talent, somebody that has been involved in some of the full time squads,” he explained.

“He comes in from time to time and has been training with the boys, on and off, throughout the season, so there’s been real benefit in the time he’s spent training with us.

“Who knows what injuries we’ll come across, but it’s unlikely for any others we haven’t seen before.

“We’ve got a lot of young guys there getting experience at the moment and that’s invaluable.”

Meanwhile, Ben Harrison and Ryan Atkins faced no further action after being put on report on Sunday.

And Smith expects Wolves to head to Yorkshire with confidence this week.

"We know we’ll need to play well because they’re a team playing with confidence and hopefully last week’s performance has helped our confidence as well," he added.

"We’ll be going into it feeling we can more than compete.

"They’re playing well at the moment, they’ve got somepeople in good form at the moment and the half back combination has been going well and some of their outside backs have proved a real handful.

"We’re expecting a tough encounter up at their place, but at the same time we’re not daunted by it."
