THE trip to Widnes Vikings was not a great night for Warrington Wolves Rugby League Club on and off the pitch, judging by the post-match reaction of supporters.

Not only was there the 30-10 defeat to arch-rivals and  the disruption of a thrown flare, or smoke bomb as some are referring to it, but supporters are highlighting fighting among fans at the Warrington end and a bottle also being thrown onto the pitch.

Here is reaction from Wolves coach Tony Smith, his players and fans at warringtonguardian.co.uk, the Warrington Guardian’s Facebook page and Twitter accounts including @WG_Sport

Tony Smith: “I thought in the first half there wasn’t much between the two teams. They took a couple of opportunities a little better than us in the first half. I thought it was going to be a really good second half but six penalties in eight minutes and a sin bin is hard to recover in a game of rugby league nowadays. That really hurt us, some of that discipline. It was always going to make it very hard and Kevin Brown came alive during that period of time. He ran the show. I thought he was fantastic in the second half. He did a couple of really good things in the first half too but he came alive in the second half. They took a chance to bring him back and I think it paid off for them.”

realistic southstander: Only to be expected. No change from the Huddersfield debacle. Smith and Agar do not seem to realise what is needed if they keep serving up such predictable fare. Creativity totally lacking again and the defence very uncomfortable throughout. Widnes weren't that great but had more quality than Wire could muster . Where do we go from here? Rapidly down the table and it looks like they'll be playing to retain a place in Superleague at the end of the season. Bring on Leigh, Bradford etc and we just might have a chance.

Dalecat: Shambolic. Smith harps on about consistency is the key when signing new players. Yet he plays players out of position every week. Every man and his dog can see where our problems lie. If it was wigan saints or leeds. Theyd be pullin out all the stops to address the issue. At the minute i really dont know what game smith watches. Widnes looked like they was playing with 3 extra players. Even when we went to a scrum the playres didnt know who should be in and who should be out. We changed all our fitness and conditioning staff. Weve never looked so tired and weak

WiresVoyager_Paul: Totally agree with all the comments, very frustrated and alarmed fan.....I believe we are at the same stage with TS as we got with Paul Cullen, improvements have been made but I suggest TS has reached his peak....we need change at the top and fresh blood in the right areas but well done to Widnes they wanted it more and were smarter in every dept. Come on TS, same old story....life time Wire fan with no smile on my face like you said you would provide. It was another shocking performance, a shambles in defence and lacking ideas in attack. The Wire players and staff need to seriously take a hard look at themselves in the mirror.....time for a change from the top down before it's too late. Most fans have been saying it for 12 months now, since LB retired we don't have a match winner.....last week it was Danny Brough now this week Kevin Brown. Clearly money hasn't been well spent in the right areas. Only wish we were another two years ahead then LB would be ready to take over. Going to be a long hard season for the fans as we go downhill.

67Magpie says: Well one department that Roger Draper thought was in good shape (on the pitch) is so far this year in a mess also. I don't think we have the players in the club this season to perform a major turnaround, and it's going to be a long slog for the fans, with more downs than they have experienced for some years. So over to you Roger, as you said any sporting business success starts with success on the field of play. Good luck turning this one around. I hope you do.

JMB Old Hall: Went to the game last night dire performance from the Wolves anyone new to the game would have thought this team had never played a game of rugby league before if I were the owner of the club there would be an urgent board meeting today over to you Mr Moran the fans deserve better than this.

EnduranceUK: I'll nail my colors to the mast I'm a Chemic....but I also watch Wire and do some work with the Foundation so sad to see them struggling at the moment. I like Smith but do wonder at the Agar situation and the fact that apart from Briers he's let all the experience leave the club. Monaghan obviously, Riley, and the biggest mistake..which came back last night in a big way to bite him....Brett Hodgson. Since he arrived at Widnes last year Hodgson has slowly made his mark adding grit to the back line and helping turn Hanbury from good to great. If Betts goes to Wigan when Wane gets the shove I'd happily see Hodgson take over. Oh yes and Widnes fitter than Warrington thanks to a certain Jon Clarke! Smith needs to get in the right people around him quickly or Warrington will continue to struggle.

Twitter:

Chris Hill (@Chrishilly1987): Simply not good enough, thanks to the fans cheering all night and stayed to clap the lads off #Wire

Stefan (Ratchford @ratch06): Not good enough tonight or the past couple of weeks, hopefully we can get back on the horse Monday in what is a massive game for us now against a quality Cas side. Thanks for your continued support, stick with us we will get through this sticky patch!

Ben Currie (@BenoCurrie): Not good enough from us again tonight! The fans need to stick with us through the lows as well as the highs tho, big game on Monday now 🏉

micky higham @mickyhigham: Frustrating understatement... Good thing got a game Monday to put it right and kickstart our season. @wolvesrl fans stick with us #Wolves

Emma & Dave (@ElmDag):  If he thinks the penalty count and sin binning were main reasons behind defeat, then we've got a problem. Brough last week and Brown this. Both quality half backs who make a difference. When will penny finally drop?

Shazza langhorne (@ShazzaLanghorne): no excuse. indiscipline started cos of our own frustration. Penaltys not to blame for unmarked wings 2 wks running

sportstherapy (@sporttherapy):   I must have watched a different game. Last wk Danny Brough this wk Kev Brown. It's not hard to see, is it?

Paul Hogg (@phogg31): very disappointing tonight. No direction in attack and woeful defence. Get attracted 2 the ball & leave outside.

Facebook:

Paul Lee: Unfortunately tonight isn't just about the on field let down. I would like to say a huge well done to whoever the Warrington "Fans" were that threw the smoke bomb onto the pitch? Our club now gets fined and we're make to look like scum throughout rugby league!

Martyn Toft: We've never replaced Briers

Keith Harrison: No ideas on the pitch without monas

Mark Graham: Big difference last year to this - Mick Monaghan. We've not replaced his influence on games or his rugby brain & leadership

Jack Ettinger: Its glaringly obvious we need a new half back ! No organisation

Matthew Davies: I want my money back

On the flare (smoke bomb) situation:

Warringtonguardian.co.uk:

MikeJT: "I would have liked a bucket of water and maybe a glove and gone and picked it up myself just to get on with the game.”... Water does not work on these type of device. It would have cooled it rapidly and possibly exploded. If its one of these coloured flares they burn so hot that until its cooled in some way you need asbestos gloves to handle them. They can be so dangerous that some police forces treat them the same as explosives. The referee made a call which he thought was best in the players safety.

Steve Jones: Regardless of what it was and what the ref did there needs to be zero tolerance towards this behaviour. RL's roots are based on respect and I fear that the game could edge towards the disrespectful attitude of football.

Thomas Jack Colbec:  I want to say that this wound me up and believe cost us the game and killed the atmosphere and momentum. I would also say, being one of the drummers at the top, it was nothing to do with us (barmy army) and want no part in it.

Damian Jones: It killed Warrington's momentum and the referee did the right thing ordering the players off the field as nothing is more important as the players safety

Stuart John Wilson: I was disgusted, the people near him should of shown the stewards who he was, as they never they are as guilty as the person who threw it, no place for this in our game or our club, somebody should name and shame him x

Victoria Jones: I am disgusted I thought us wires had the best fans ever. Name shame and ban!!! Its a family game and we should be able to feel safe with our children at home or away matches!!!!!

Dawn Spencer: The fights amongst the Warrington crowd were caused by some idiots cheering and supporting the guy that threw the flare and other people getting annoyed with that. There was a lot of negative chanting last night and not enough cheering the team on - in my opinion. I know it's frustrating at the moment but we need to be pro Warrington fans. Not anti the opposition and the referee. That's what incites anger at the games and spoils them. Come on the Wire!

Zoey Mcalinden: I agree with what the referee did with that and the bottle being thrown on the same side, he's doing hid job and protecting players and his officials.
