Latchford 42 St Helens Wild Boars 24
LATCHFORD Albion climbed to third in North West Men's League Division One with a convincing yet scrappy victory on Saturday.
Lewis Wightman bagged the opening try and the last one, while Martin Whitehead crossed for a quickfire brace for the division's top scorers.
Wightman, who also kicked five conversions, supported Dave Levenston's break before great hands allowed Jamie Birchall to make it 12-0.
But there was plenty of fight in the Wild Boars who pulled level and were pressing again when great vision from player-of-the-match Connor Byron allowed him to intercept and race 60 yards to score.
Right in the stroke of half time Sam Dobson dummied his way over for a 24-12 interval advantage.
Dave Yii scored from dummy half and Whitehead went over twice in 10 minutes to end the contest before Wightman's second was sandwiched between St Helens scores.
