A WARRINGTON Collegiate student is set to represent the England Lions Rugby League team.

Sixteen-year-old plumbing student Daniel Lynch will travel with the squad to Italy in June.

“I’m really excited about going on tour with England Lions, it’s an amazing opportunity and a chance to test my skills at a higher level," said Lynch.

His performance at county level for Lancashire in a tri-series challenge with Yorkshire and Cumbria led to the England call up.

He added: “My goal is to play professional rugby league but I understand that I need an alternative career in case it doesn’t go to plan.

"I really enjoy college life and with support and encouragement from my tutors and parents I’m successfully balancing studying with working part time in a pub and rugby training twice a week and games at the weekend.

"I’m hoping to pursue a career in professional rugby league but feel it is important to have an alternative career path if this does not work out.”

Jon Brown, lecturer in plumbing at Warrington Collegiate said: “Daniel is a fantastic student and I am delighted that he has been selected to play for England Lions.

"Playing on tour in Italy will be a great experience for him and it is good to see that his hard work and talent has been recognised.”
