PHOENIX Fire Boxing Club’s Casey Brown and Jamie Aramayo booked a spot in the England Boxing National Junior Championships last four after quarter final wins in Liverpool on Sunday.
Brown, 61kg, enjoyed a unanimous points decision against Reece Robertson of Wellington ABC, Middlesbrough, controlling the bout throughout with a high work rate and intelligent defence and countering.
Aramayo, 80kg, defeated Dennis Sparks of Horsly Hill, Newcastle, by a split points decision. In a tough battle, his footwork and fast sharp combination punching on the inside and outside got him the win.
Both travel to the semi finals in Birminghan on Sunday.
Phoenix boxers impressed at the Warrington ABC show on Friday.
Sam Sinnett won by tko against Tommie Cooke in the third round. John Taylor took his ninth win in 10 bouts with a unaminous points decision against Kane Wildman of Camborne ABC.
Phoenix believe 16-year-old Bayode Okelule to be the first insulin dependant diabetic boxer in England. He won a unaminous points decision against Keiran Farrell of the People’s Club, Heywood.
