THE Halliwell Jones Stadium emerged unscathed from last night’s storms and Warrington Wolves are raring to kick their Super League season off against St Helens tonight, kick off 8pm.

As winds of up to 70mph gripped the town yesterday, uprooting trees, causing damage and creating travel chaos, rugby league fans had their fingers crossed that the weather would settle in time for Wolves’ season opener against their bitter rivals.

And while Saints were forced to issue a statement about rumoured damage to their Langtree Park stadium, Warrington Wolves have this morning confirmed that the Halliwell Jones Stadium suffered 'no damage' and that preparations are ‘full speed ahead’ for tonight’s clash.

The statement on the St Helens website sought to dispel rumours that the stadium had suffered significant damage, which were rife on social media sites yesterday.

The statement said: “The Club wishes to correct misinformed statements as to storm damage at Langtree Park.

"The only damage was to an outside sign.

"Standard safety checks will now be conducted as a matter of course whilst the stadium remains fully operational.”
