SUNDAY’S clash pits Warrington Wolves against Hull FC for the first time ever in a Challenge Cup semi final, despite 10 previous meetings in the competition.

Wolves have made the last four on 32 occasions, nine times more than their opponents, but their 16 wins at this stage is only two more than the Black and Whites have managed.

Tony Smith’s side have enjoyed Challenge Cup success in recent seasons, but you have to go back to round one in 1965 to find Warrington’s last victory against Hull FC in this competition.

That said, the meeting at Huddersfield’s John Smith’s Stadium will be the first in 30 years in the Challenge Cup between these two, a game Hull FC won 10-4.

Looking back through the semi finals history books, a massive 69,898 crammed into Bradford’s Odsal Stadium in 1950 in what was a Challenge Cup semi-final record attendance when Warrington played Leeds.

The televised fixture won’t enjoy that kind of following at the John Smith’s on Sunday, but it is expected it will at least double the cup’s lowest ever semi-final attendance of 5,500 when Warrington played Batley at Fartown in Huddersfield in 1897.
