Burtonwood Bridge 18
Rylands Sharks 42
RYLANDS go into Saturday’s ‘derby’ against Bank Quay Bulls A on the back of a morale-boosting victory over Burtonwood.
Sharks continued their unbeaten start to the season at Burtonwood, who play two divisions above them, in a friendly to fill a void in league fixtures.
Although Bridge hooker Andy Connolly caught Sharks napping from a quick tap to go between the sticks for the opening try, a brace from hooker Adam Coley and one from captain Mike Ward was a strong response.
Just before the break Connolly reduced the deficit to six points with his second effort.
With tries from man-of-the-match loose forward Ian Ward and winger Aaron Holliday Rylands built an 18-point advantage.
Centre Rob Batty replied with a six pointer in the 51st minute but with Sharks half backs Luke Walker and Chris Meacock impressing with tries the Gorsey Lane boys came away with a convincing victory.
