WOOLSTON Rovers return to league action when they entertain Hindley in Hatton’s Solicitors National Conference League Division Three at Monks Sports Club on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.

Rovers suffered a 38-0 defeat at reigning NCL Premier Division Champions Wath Brow in the Conference Challenge Trophy at the weekend but the scoreline did not reflect the closeness of the game for an hour.

Rovers head coach Mike Grady said: “I was proud. To compete with the champions for such a large part was a massive effort.

“We were on the end of a few poor decisions and also bombed two tries.

“The final score did us a great discredit as we did give Wath Brow a fright. They said after the game that we had put them under pressure and were impressed with how we played the game.”

Grady added: “Hindley are like us, new to the NCL this season and have been competing well so we will have to be at our best.

“We have a few lads who are back available this week and adding those to the side who did so well at Wath Brow will make selection difficult.”

Wath Brow Hornets 38
Woolston Rovers 0

WOOLSTON Rovers went out of the Conference Challenge Trophy in the first round despite a brave display without five of their regulars through work and holiday commitments.

Hornets’ greater experience led to them scoring several late tries that gave the scoreline a flattering look to the Cumbrians.

Wath Brow only led 6-0 at half time and some strong defence was needed to keep Rovers at bay until two tries in three minutes put the home side in command.

Best for Woolston were Daniel O’Brien, Andy Addison, Christian Froggatt and Chris Mellor.

Rovers: Ryan Cosgrove, James Rosson, Dan Heaton, Ryan Kenyon, Christian Taylor, Chris Mellor, Daniel O’Brien, Andy Addison, Ben Moores, Matt Clarke, Sean Conway, Christian Froggatt, Ryan Jones. Subs: Jon Rigby, Mike Grady, Mike Rosson, Mike Leicester.
