I READ with interest the letter concerning the costs to the council of clearing up after traveller encampments.

While it seems like a reasonable question, why does the writer then go on to suggest that the former Biffa Waste Site at Risley should be considered as a place for a future site?

Are they an expert in planning, are they local to Birchwood?

If so, they would know that considerable time, money and effort has gone into turning this location into a haven for both nature and people to enjoy, so much so that there is a growing deer population amongst other things.

We, in the area, are already having an unwelcome motorway service station thrust upon us, something the council failed to even object to at the planning review. Just because we are on the very edge, doesn’t mean everything should be dumped here (pun intended).

I would suggest that the council creates the site among the vast area currently being turned over to the Six56 development, or within those areas of new housing in order that neighbours know in advance exactly what is within their area.

One thing we can agree on, is that a decision is desperately overdue, but then that seems to be the case with an awful lot of matters that the council should be dealing with.
