AN ORFORD resident has renewed calls for a pedestrian crossing on Hallfields Road in the wake of a fatal hit and run incident on the street.
Steve Donoghue, 58, died in the early hours of Monday August 10 after being hit by a car near to the entrance to Orford Park.
Alamein Crescent resident Simon Pickett has raised concerns about road safety in the area on a number of occasions – dating back to before the Orford Park redevelopment.
Mr Pickett said: “I'm just astonished that they have spent millions on a park and aren't interested in pedestrians being able to get to and from there safely.
“Children regularly cross Hallfields Road near to the park entrance and it never looks safe to me when young children are having to run across the road between gaps in the traffic.
“The designated crossing area next to Hilden Island is probably even more dangerous although further away from the park.
“Surely it is time for the speed limit to be reduced on Hallfields Road and for there to be a safe crossing for adults and children alike.”
