A GREAT Sankey veterinary practice has warned owners to get their rabbits vaccinated after an outbreak of the myxomatosis virus.
Four Paws, on Lingley Road, has seen a massive influx of cases in the past couple of weeks and is warning owners to look out for symptoms including swollen eyes, swelling around the groin area, lack of appetite and lethargy.
Vet Steve Hancox said: “There are normally cases around this time of year but it has been a lot worse than we have seen with two or three rabbits a day having to be put to sleep.
“We’re urging owners to keep an eye on their pets.”
Rees Veterinary Centre, on Orford Avenue, are also supporting this week’s national rabbit awareness week with free bunny health check clinics.
