A FUNDING bid could be music to the ears of musicians across the borough.

Warrington Borough Council is bidding for government funding to create a music education hub.

The council will be teaming up with its counterparts in Halton to apply for £1.2million of government funding over three years to bring together music organisations such as orchestras and choirs.

The hub is a partnership between councils and music organisations which would provide singing and instrument lessons to 5-19 year olds in the area.

Warrington’s Schools’ Arts and Culture Service was called ‘outstanding’ through the Federation of Music Services Moderation programme in January 2011.

Halton was also praised in March 2011 as it maintained ‘outstanding performance’ in vocal work and ‘outstanding features’ in early years provision.

Clr Colin Froggatt, executive board member for children and young people’s services, said: “This is a very exciting time for our music services.

“Securing funding for this joint initiative would mean that we can build on the success these services already enjoy and give our children and young people even more fantastic opportunities to learn music.”

The hubs will be running from September.
